CBD Skincare: How CBD Supports Healthy, Vibrant Skin

CBD Skincare: How CBD Supports Healthy, Vibrant Skin

Interest in CBD has been sweeping the nation. These days, it seems that you can find it in just about everything, from coffee to cosmetics.

MeCBD is one of the first companies to have created an entire line of CBD-infused skincare products. Our scientists saw the opportunity and potential benefits of CBD for skin health right away.

But in a world where it seems like CBD is in everything, from coffee to cosmetics, is it actually beneficial? How and why does CBD provide a powerful boost for skin-health and appearance?

CBD and the Endocannabinoid System

CBD (cannabidiol) is a cannabinoid, which is a chemical compound produced by the cannabis plant. Your skin is packed with cannabinoid receptors. These receptors are a part of your endocannabinoid system, which stretches throughout your entire body. This system is associated with pain sensation, appetite, mood, energy, immune function, digestion, and much more. Cannabinoids like CBD lock into cannabinoids receptors where they are able to influence all these essential bodily functions.

Thanks to the high density of cannabinoid receptors in the skin, CBD can quickly and easily lock into cannabinoid receptors to begin influencing the skin and surrounding tissues. CBD is able to help support and rejuvenate the cells, encourage healing, and reduce inflammation and redness. (You can learn more about how this process works in our Understanding CBD Guide.)

When it comes to CBD in skincare, there are three primary superpowers CBD offers.

CBD Superpower #1: It Reduces Inflammation in the Skin

The most well-known property of CBD is its ability to help the body reduce inflammation. CBD is often used topically to help reduce swelling and discomfort in aching muscles and joints related to aging, injury, or overuse.

Carrier oils, such as our Emu Oil, enhance the benefits and absorbability of CBD. Carrier oils help to draw the CBD deep into the skin where it can them lock into and interact with dozens of localized cannabinoid receptors to help the body turn down the production of inflammatory markers.

Aside from relieving inflammation related to pain and discomfort, CBD can also help to ease inflammatory skin conditions. Anecdotal evidence and a growing body of research is showing that CBD infused topicals may help to ease rosacea, eczema, and acne.

In fact, a spontaneous, anecdotal, retrospective study of 20 patients with two common skin disorders — psoriasis and atopic dermatitis — showed significant improvement of the skin parameters after a 3-month treatment of CBD, applied twice daily. Notably, no irritant or allergic reactions were documented. 1

CBD Superpower #2: It Balances Sebum and Helps Control Acne

CBD helps to reduce and balance sebum production in the skin. Sebum is the oil your skin produces to lubricate, waterproof, and help to protect the skin. When your skin produces too much sebum, the result is oily skin that tends to be prone to acne and blemishes. Too little sebum and the skin is under-protected and susceptible to dryness.

Recent research and scientific trials are exploring how CBD may help to calm overactive sebaceous glands producing excess sebum. The anti-inflammatory properties of CBD also help to reduce acne and prevent the activation of “pro-acne” agents like inflammatory cytokines. 2

Much of CBD’s power to fight acne is also thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties. It helps to reduce redness and discomfort associated with a breakout or blemish and encourages the skin to heal.

CBD Superpower #3: It’s a Powerful Antioxidant.

This fact is well documented. CBD is an incredibly powerful antioxidant — stronger even than vitamin C and vitamin E, which have both been touted for their antioxidative properties for years.

But what’s an antioxidant and why does that matter when it comes to our skin?

Antioxidants are substances that help to prevent or slow damage to cells caused by oxidative damage (or oxidation) in your body. This process breaks down collagen, hinders the skin’s natural repair process, and triggers inflammation. The result is fine lines, wrinkles, loose skin, acne breakouts, and a dull, lackluster complexion.

The antioxidant properties of CBD, when absorbed into the skin, protect the skin cells from oxidative damage, and encourage cell repair. This helps to correct visible signs of aging and gives your skin a more youthful, healthy glow.

Other Cool Facts About CBD’s Antioxidants:

  1. Antioxidants help the skin repair itself and can stimulate collagen production.
  2. Antioxidants can help reduce photodamage (dark spots and uneven skin tone caused by sun exposure).
  3. Antioxidants can help to prevent sunburn by blunting the skin’s inflammatory response to harmful UV rays.
  4. Antioxidants help your body fight against cancer cells.

What Sets Our CBD Skincare Products Apart?

Our skincare line outpaces our competitors because we have a team of scientists that have been working to create effective, top-quality skincare products for years — before CBD was an option. They have isolated ingredients that are powerfully supportive of skin health for a variety of skin types, ages, and conditions.

Once CBD was legalized, our scientists got right to work exploring the possibilities of CBD in skincare products. What they found was the CBD extract was excellent for helping to regenerate the skin cells (antioxidizing), balance oil production, and, most significantly, reduce inflammation in the skin.

We’ve created a skincare and haircare line that utilizes the best healing properties of CBD and compliments other potent, powerful ingredients for maximum, outrageously excellent results. These products are part of what sets us apart from our competitors in the industry.

Fun Fact: Our CBD is always sourced from organically grown hemp in the USA.

Is CBD a Skincare Cure-All?

CBD may have some awesome superpowers, but there’s no such thing as a cure-all.

For instance, while CBD offers support for a variety of skin issues, a CBD lotion isn’t a replacement for a consultation with a dermatologist or medical professional. You should always consult a doctor for any concerning or chronic skin issues.
